The city’s planning commission on Thursday approved the project on a 9-0 vote. Commissioners noted the unanimous vote was buttressed by strong support from both neighborhood and business groups for the project.
Up next for Paragary, a restaurateur and the project's developer, is finding financing, getting final architectural drawings and looking for a contractor to build the hotel at 28th and Capitol Avenue.
Paragary also will need to find a brand and final name for the hotel. Two of his existing businesses on the block, Monkey Bar and Cafe Bernardo, will be incorporated into the new building.
